Be Our Guest! What guests really want.

We’re fortunate to have a spare bedroom ready for guests. At one time, we lived where guests might need extra coats and gloves. Now we live in a place where guests might need to borrow a bathing suit. Having clothing for all helps. For a while, keeping a Pack-n-Play helped friends avoid overflowing their car with toddler gear. We love staying with these friends in return. The laughter and special meals together are always the focus.

Some friends spend just one night while traveling, and others spend a week. I’m just grateful guests find staying here comfortable. Recently, I’ve been thinking about guest room details beyond the basics. What do guests really want in their rooms? I found a helpful blog I plan to keep handy:

19 Things Your Guests Wish You Had in Your Guest Room

Some items I haven’t given much thought to: #1 A place for guests to set their suitcases. I usually put mine on the floor. #3 Instructions for accessing the internet. My significant other doesn’t think it’s important, but I might put it on a cute chalkboard. I love beautiful soaps, and diffusers, and I am thinking about splurge-worthy items (major splurge Joe Malone or The Nest) I can stock in their bathroom.

One item I did not see on the list is a couple of bottles of water. No, they won’t be cold, but I’ve found them handy for a drink in the middle of the night. A commenter suggested a rather over-the-top idea: taking a picture of the guest and putting it in a frame labeled with their name (like “Sharon’s Room.”) then hanging it on the guest room door. Kinda cute, but I’m not that organized, and honestly, I would get the side eye from my friends. That being said,

Everyone can use their unique style and resources to make guests feel welcome.
