Thirty-Seven Years

My Brother, Brett

March 18, 1972 — July 17, 2009

My brother, Brett, was killed by a drunk driver when he was 37. Thirty-seven.

Greg and I spent the day at the cemetery—cleaning his headstone, adding fresh flowers, and crying. There aren’t enough words to describe the loss our family carries. And there will never be enough to explain all that he has missed.

In the photo, Brett is taking my sons and his to a U.G.A. football game. He loved being their uncle and loved being a father above all.

Please, don’t drink and drive.
